Google Introduces Fake Call Detection Feature for Android Phones
Google has launched a new security feature for Android phones. This tool detects fake calls and alerts users before they answer.
Furthermore, the feature aims to protect people from AI-enabled voice cloning scams, call spoofing attacks, and impersonation fraud. It is now rolling out globally to devices running Android 12 and newer versions through the Phone by Google app.
Moreover, the system works using confirmation signals. Both the caller and receiver must use the Phone by Google app for this feature to function. It creates a secure digital handshake between the two phones through Rich Communication Services (RCS).
In addition, the feature runs automatically by default. When a suspicious call arrives, the receiver’s phone sends a verification request. If the caller responds that they are not making the call, the app immediately warns the receiver and advises them to hang up.
However, users can disable this feature anytime from the app settings. Google uses end-to-end encryption to protect user privacy during the verification process.
Besides this, the company highlighted the growing threat of impersonation scams. According to Interpol’s March 2026 report, these frauds contribute to more than $400 billion in global losses every year.
