Nike Unveils Apex Racing Shoe for Marathon Runners in India
Nike unveiled its latest racing shoe, Apex, in India and other markets on Thursday. The company says the pair is built for marathon runners. It combines Nike’s in-house Air Zoom technology with new ZoomX LT foam. The Apex also uses a redesigned carbon-fibre Flyplate and a Flyknit X upper. Nike claims the shoe returns up to 40 percent more energy than the Alphafly 3 in a men’s size 10, while weighing more than 10 percent less. It has a zero-drop platform, with a 40mm stack height at both the heel and the forefoot.
Nike has not disclosed the price. The Apex will be available from January 2027 through Nike’s official website and select retail stores.
The shoe is aimed at athletes and uses Air Zoom technology. Nike says it is the first racing shoe to use two double-stacked Air Zoom units, and that it puts more Air in the forefoot than any previous Nike running shoe. The setup includes ZoomX LT foam, which the company says is lighter and softer than existing ZoomX foam.
A redesigned carbon-fibre Flyplate sits under the foot. Nike says a raised inverse-wave construction is meant to improve forward drive and stability. The platform also has a wider outsole and rocker-shaped geometry.
The upper is a lightweight Flyknit X knit, with a knitted collar and no sock-liner. Underfoot, Nike uses a GOATEK and Fast Shot outsole, which it says cuts unnecessary race weight. The 40mm stack at the heel and forefoot is meant to give wearers a balanced ride in a marathon. Nike says the design came from athlete feedback and research at the Nike Sport Research Lab.
Nike also claims the Apex returns up to 40 percent more energy than the Alphafly 3 in a men’s size 10, and that it weighs more than 10 percent less than that model.
