Samsung Reportedly Developing Improved Privacy Display for Galaxy S27 Ultra
Samsung launched the Galaxy S26 Ultra earlier this year as its flagship Galaxy S series handset. With that model, the company introduced a Privacy Display feature designed to reduce shoulder surfing. The hardware-based solution dims the wide-viewing pixels of the display to narrow the viewing angles. A tipster now claims Samsung is working on a next-generation version of the feature. The enhanced Privacy Display is expected to ship with the rumoured Galaxy S27 Ultra, which could be unveiled early next year.
Expected Improvements and Pricing
In a post on X, tipster Sawyer Galox claimed Samsung has started work on the second generation of Privacy Display. The feature is said to bring improvements on multiple fronts. The Galaxy S27 Ultra will reportedly include the updated technology and deliver higher resolution when Privacy Display is enabled. Samsung is also said to be improving the overall viewing angles of the panel as well as its quality and clarity. The tipster added that the new hardware changes could lead to a notable price increase. The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to start between $1,400 (roughly Rs 1,33,000) and $1,500 (about Rs 1,43,000).
These leaked prices are slightly higher than earlier estimates. A recent report suggested the phone would launch at $1,399 (roughly Rs 1,35,000) in the US, $1,499 (about Rs 1,45,000) in South Korea, and between $1,499 and $1,549 (about Rs 1,45,000 to Rs 1,50,000) in select global markets. Samsung has not confirmed any of these details.
Current Privacy Display Feature
The Privacy Display feature introduced on the Galaxy S26 Ultra aims to limit shoulder surfing. Users can enable it for specific apps, messages, passwords, and banner notifications. The display uses both wide-viewing and narrow-viewing pixels. When the feature is turned on, the wide-viewing pixels switch off, which significantly reduces the viewing angles. After launch, some users reported reduced pixel density and resolution while the feature was active.
The second-generation version is expected to address these limitations. If the tipster’s claims prove accurate, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could offer stronger privacy protection with fewer trade-offs in display quality.
